1st city with 100% vaccination (LOCAL)

Odisha's Bhubaneswar has become the first city in India to achieve 100 percent vaccination coverage against Covid-19. Additionally, about one lakh migrant workers have also been administered the first dose of Covid vaccines in the capital city of Odisha.

Talking to India Today TV, Anshuman Rath, South-east Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, said, “100 percent of the population in Bhubaneswar have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Along with this, one lakh migrant workers in the city have been administered the first jab.”

He further said, “The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation set a goal of immunizing cent percent of its population by July 31. During this time, we have administered the second jab to a total of 9,07,000 people above 18 years of age, which includes around 31,000 health workers, 33,000 frontline workers, 5,17,000 people between 18-45, and 3,20,000 above 45. As per reports, around 18,35,000 doses of Covid vaccine have been given till July 30.”

The BMC Commissioner said, “Our confidence in being close to saturation stems from the fact that 70% of the people infected every day are found to have received two doses. Similarly, 15-17% of those infected have got the first dose. Infections have also been reported in people under the age of 18.

It shows that we have virtually reached the whole number of eligible persons. We have already vaccinated 18 lakh 16 thousand persons in the city, according to the report. Only a few persons were unable to take the first dose due to a variety of factors. There is a migrant population in Bhubaneswar who is having their first Covaxin jab while working in their office."

To speed up the vaccination campaign, 55 vaccination centers were established throughout Bhubaneswar, with 30 of them located inside primary health centers and community centers.

According to a PTI report, while 10,71,676 people received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination, 8,05,502 people received the second dosage. As Bhubaneswar is closer to saturation, the municipal corporation has announced that anyone can walk into any vaccination center to get inoculated from Monday. “They can either come to the center with their CoWIN registration number or we will register them on the spot,” Mr. Singh said.

Previously, only Covaxin was used in Bhubaneswar, while Covishield was utilized throughout the state. Covaxin was afterward delivered to the Berhampur Municipal Corporation region.
